DMV Spotlight shines a light on Tracy’s Kids which provides art therapy for children battling cancer. Founder Matt Gerson shared his experience as a ten year old with cancer. Gerson explained why art therapy allows young patients to have a safe place to be a kid during treatment. Tracy’s Kids provides grants for art therapy in local hospitals including Children’s National Medical Center, Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Inova Children’s Cancer Program in Falls Church and more. Gerson explains the time with art therapists allows the child cancer patients to create, to play, interact with other patients and to have some control. The art therapy program is also open to the siblings who are also impacted. Tracy’s Kids hosts one big fundraiser each year that is movie themed but accepts donations from corporations and individuals.
