DMV Spotlight on 8.18.2019 highlights a new initiative at the National Institute on Drug Abuse to improve opioid addiction treatment in criminal justice settings. Dr. Tisha Wiley, who heads up the ‘Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network ‘(JCOIN) at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, explains 12 grants have been awarded to support research on quality addition treatment for opioid use disorder, both while offenders are in jail and when they are released back into the community. Dr. Wiley also explained some of the other initiatives at the National Institutes of Health to battle the larger opioid crisis as part of the HEAL Initiative ( Helping to End Addiction Long Term) at NIH.
