DMV Spotlight shines a light on Central Union Mission, the oldest private social service agency in Washington DC. Guest, Joseph Mettimano, is the President and CEO of Central Union Mission, a faith based 501 (c)(3) non profit that provides emergency shelter to homeless men in the city. In addition, Mettimano says a Family Mission Center serves children and families, as well as transitional housing in SE DC. Homeless men in the shelter receive not only a bed, shower and meals, they also can get counseling, medical and dental services, emotional support, addiction treatment as well as workforce development. While the Holidays are drawing to a close, Mettimano points out the needs remain the same throughout the year. During the summer months, the Mission operates a summer camp for underprivileged kids. As an ordained associate pastor, Mettimano, also leads a weekly outreach on Wednesday evenings at St. John’s Episcopal Church across Lafayette Park from the the White House that includes a free meal, a message of hope and fellowship.
